TESTIMONIALS
I originally came to Debora due to some arthritic issues in my foot and degenerative changes in my hip. After completing an in-depth personal, diet and medical history, she designed a Yoga Therapy plan to meet my needs. The plan included specific asanas (poses), diet changes and therapies directed toward releiving my discomfort and promoting healing. I have felt the benefits of this plan and have experienced decreased joint discomfort. Recently, we have focused on my migraines with a plan for relieving those as well. Debora has a very warm and caring approach. I feel I have definitely benefited from her knowledge and practice of Yoga Therapy.     P.R.

I sought help for the usual mid-life imbalances: weight gain, stress and anxiety. I have had many unsuccessful attempts at maintaining healthy weight, and have always had difficulty staying calm and enjoying life. Debora has designed an individual program that includes exercising, healthy eating, and reflective meditative practices. In just a short period of time, I have already lost 7 pounds and feel terrific. With her expertise and guidance, I have regained my “mojo” and am looking toward the future with a feeling of excitement that I have not had in a very long time. It’s definitely working for me.  D.B.

STRESS

The body’s natural relaxation response is a powerful antidote to stress. Relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, visualization, progressive muscle relaxation, meditation, and other yoga techniques can help you activate this relaxation response. When practiced regularly, these activities lead to a reduction in your everyday stress levels. What’s more, they also serve a protective quality by teaching you how to stay calm and collected in the face of life’s curveballs.

Lately, scientists have begun to discover what yogis have known for centuries; that yoga is good for the brain. We've known for a long time that yoga is an excellent therapy to relieve stress. Also, recent research at Boston University School of Medicine and McLean Hospital has revealed that a consistent yoga practice may actually increase levels of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the brain. Since low levels of GABA are associated with depression and anxiety, this research indicates that yoga could be used as a therapy for these mental disorders.
There are many other important aspects to yoga, such as pranayama (breathwork), yamas (restraints), niyamas (observances), and dyana (meditation).
Yoga may help to regulate levels of the neurotransmitter dopamine within the brain. Thus, it has been suggested as a therapy for neurological disorders such as Parkinson's Disease, addiction and anxiety. Also, intense pranayama can trigger the release of endorphins, creating a natural high.
